Major Solo Leveling S-Rank Betrayal Teased in New Arise Webtoon Release

Solo Leveling: Arise recently revealed its latest webtoon release as part of the franchise's Hunter: Origin series, showcasing the aftermath of a major betrayal in the manhwa.

Solo Leveling: Arise's official forum revealed its latest Hunter addition, Tawata Kanae, and her exclusive weapon "The Path a Hero Must Take" in a new game trailer and webtoon release. In the webtoon, Kanae clashes with the original character Amamiya Mirei, who debuted in a previous release. It then delves into her relationship with S-Rank Hunter Goto Ryuji, yet to be explored even in the anime series. Readers can check out the new Solo Leveling: Arise webtoon release below.

Solo Leveling: Arise Introduces Tawata Kanae in New Hunter: Origins Webtoon

Kanae's in-game classification is a Fire-style Assassin, with her backstory teased "She joined the Blade Guild, following someone she deeply admired, and now, she walks her own path, upholding her own convictions. 🔥 A fire-attribute hunter who delivers stylish action with her swift dual-blade combos, growing stronger with each attack!" Elizabeth Maxwell voices the character, known for voicing Albedo in Overlord, Motoko Kusanagi in the Ghost in the Shell: Arise series, Ymir in Attack on Titan and Bishamon from Noragami.

While the release of Kanae's webtoon brings Mirei's backstory full circle with her savior now revealed, it also explores her disillusionment with Goto Ryuji, stemming from the Jeju Island arc; his evil plan to annihilate Korean hunters led to the sad deaths of many. Other recent Arise webtoon releases include Esil Radiru, who cameoed in the Solo Leveling Season 2 opening music video. Shimizu Akari also received a webtoon in December, exploring the Eternal Slumber sickness. This illness is at the core of Jinwoo's motivations, especially as he ventures back into the Demon's Castle per the Solo Leveling Season 2, Episode 7 preview. The latest previews also confirm Jinwoo's reevaluation as an S-Rank Hunter.

Solo Leveling: Arise is available on smartphones and PC via Netmarble Launcher. A Steam release has been confirmed for 2025. The game adapts the manhwa of the same name alongside the Crunchyroll anime series, described: "They say whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, but that’s not the case for the world’s weakest hunter Sung Jinwoo. After being brutally slaughtered by monsters in a high-ranking dungeon, Jinwoo came back with the System, a program only he could see, that’s leveling him up in every way. Now, he’s inspired to discover the secrets behind his powers and the dungeon that spawned them."
